RUNNING!
I discovered the joys of running in early 2009, and I think I’m proof that anyone can do it!! On my very first run, I puffed my way through 1 mile, being exhausted afterwards! Eventually, I managed 2miles, and OH MY GOSH, the feeling of achievement afterwards was incredible! However, I learnt my lesson (the hard way) that you should never train too much, too fast – I jumped from a 6mile run one week, to an 11mile the next week, and sure paid for it – a lovely foot injury. NOT GOOD. So I took some time off from it all, and picked it up again in September kind of time last year. I’ve taken training a bit slower now, so hopefully the injuries will be kept away…so far:
I’ve done one 10k run (54:45 – it was a tough race, soo much wind…wind is my RUNNING ENEMY!)
and I’m now entered for my first half marathon, on February 7th – I’m so excited!
I’ve now done three six half marathons! The first one was inn one hour, forty three minutes, my best time yet.
I was SO thrilled! You can read my re-cap here.
My second half marathon was completed in 1hr50, and was hot and hilly! It was much harder than the first (read all about it here)…but I still want to do more
My third half marathon was done in 1hr58, as part of my training programme for my fast-approaching marathon in October. It was much slower than my previous runs, mainly due to giant hills, which were NOT expected!!
My fourth half was the same race as the third – except I did it in 1hr47!!
My fifth was the Royal Parks Half in London October 2011, which I ran for the Brooke Hospital for Animals. I just missed out on a PR, finishing in 1hr44.
My sixth half isn’t really a half…it was a 20k, or 12.4 miles. I still finished in 1hr44 though, over the world’s most boring course.
In October last year, I ran my first marathon – the Marine Corps – in Washington DC. Quite the experience!!!

Really enjoying your blog…lurked for awhile. I was a long time horse person but moving with the military dampened that…my career was in livestock nutrition, thus I got to play a lot!
Is the marathon you’re running MCM? If so, you’ll LOVE it! It was my first, and 2nd, in 07 and 08. Amazing experience…best of luck to you!

I love hearing from fellow horse people, even if it was a past thing! Maybe you’ll pick it back up one day?
Yep it’s the MCM!! Can’t wait, and I’m so glad you told me it’s good! I’m way more excited now
Thanks for de-lurking!

Love your blog!
I really want to run a half/full marathon someday, but I don’t know how to train for it so I am trying to find out various people’s methods. Did you follow a specific program or did you do your own thing? If you did your own training, what did you do?
