    Hi Freya,

I’ve been browsing over your blog the past couple of months and you have really inspired me to start my own!! Finally did after a really hideous weekend! I’m looking into starting running again with cycling plus the healthy eating. I’ve been a veggie for 20 years but have the most truly shocking diet so I’m guess I’m looking up to you a little bit! I hope my blog gets a lot better in time and with new ideas for meals. In the mean time, if I were to use your (food) ideas and of course credit them to you and your website, would you be ok with that. Like I say I’m new to this and cooking in general! Hope you enjoyed your weekend in America!
    Thanks
    Luce

      Hey!

Good on you for making a change, and I’m so glad I could help! Of course I don’t mind you using my ideas – go ahead! That’s part of what blogs are for :D Thank you for reading :) and I can’t wait to see how you get on. Good luck!

I just started blogging a few months ago when I had twins I have been inspired by reading healthy eating blogs and so I began my own about having a healthy balance between raising twins, working out, and eating healthy. check it out when you get a chance. Thank you sharing your life with me. http://www.ashandlewplus2.wordpress.com.

Hi, Im currently struggling with an ED. You give me such inspiration for the future. Wold you be able to write a post about how you overcome your own devils to get to where you are now?

Just found the new site. It’s superb. Well done! x

I adore your blog and am creating a blog of my own http://www.rawmomhotdogkids.blogspot.com (taking it private right now and integrating it into my website.) I tried to sign up to your blog via email. Do you offer this right now? If so, can you sign me up because it is not letting me do it on this end. As a former rider, mother of two children and lover of all things healthy, you are such a lovely inspiration.

    Hey Freya!

Your blog rocks! I love reading about your fun-horse riding adventures and your kitchen creativity blows me away! I wanted to ask you about taking rest days. Exercise really helps me clear my head and I have been working out seven days a week for a while now. I start to get really anxious when I don’t and I just have such a hard time focusing when I don’t do it everyday. I am wondering if you have any suggestions on how to feel more comfortable with taking days off and ways to ease anxiety. I really appreciate it. Also do you have any tips for increasing speed and or mileage?

    Thanks!

      Hey! Thanks for reading :)
I think it’s important to remember that on rest days, the body is healing itself. When you get fit and workout, your muscles are basically breaking down, but to really see fitness benefits, you need days off – on those days, the muscles re-build themselves..if that makes sense!? I used to get anxious too, but when I realised just how important they are to take, it lessened. Honestly, you will benefit in the long run from taking them, and you WILL get fitter and see more improvement!
If you keep yourself busy in other ways – maybe going shopping for the day for example – you won’t have time to be anxious! Or take yourself for a nice walk (not a power walk with weights though!). It’s relaxing, it’ll clear your head, and you can be ‘doing something’ without it being strenuous on your body :) You could also do some yoga on a rest day, spend the day baking in the kitchen, catch up on work – just the main thing to combat anxiety is to not let it get a look-in, so keep your mind busy elsewhere.
OH, and another point – I went through a phase of working out 7 days a week, and it lasted a while…then I got injured. It really does tend to lead to burnout :/ so do listen to your body – if you need a break, take it :)

        Thanks for the advice Freya!

I actually woke up with a super sore foot today and I think that its the result of working out too much. So whether I wanted to or not I took the day off today. And it was fine! I spent the day getting school work done with my friend Hannah which was lovely. Being with a friend made the hours fly by stress free!

How did you ease yourself back into working out/ running after your injury? Do you have any advice on low-impacted exercises that you can do while injured?

I read your post today and I am so inspired by your running accomplishments (you look so happy in that picture)! Do you have any advice for how to increase your speed and distance as a runner? Also, how many days do recommend running/strength training/stretching per week?

I think one day it would be really fun for me to run in a race I just don’t really know how to go about training. Any tips/advice would be much appreciated!

        Thanks again!
        Sarah

    Hi Freda,

After reading your story on Choosing Raw, I began to read your blog and was almost scared at how much you and I are alike. Your likes, dislikes, and favorite things are EXACTLY like mine. I’m floored. My two favorite food groups are 100% dark chocolate and cinnamon, lol. Seriously though, I have went up and down with EDs for 7 years now. Different ones, anorexia, then bulimia, then a mixture, then omnirexia( obsessed over healthy eating), and have tried veganism. Unfortunately when I tried veganism, I couldn’t seem to ever look healthy. Do you have tips for how you keep on weight? I eat aLOT but for some reason, I don’t look well if I don’t eat fish and eggs. Those are the two animal foods I still eat and truly would like to keep, but my eating disorder is still rampant. I still overspend money on food, and obsess over the next meal. Any tips for how you overcome this?

Besides that, I’ll tell you a little about myself. You can check out my blog, http://www.thesoulfulspoon.com, but the short version is I’m 26, an organic chef(new one at that), graduate of Nutrition Science, and an American girl from SC who HATES hot weather and humid temps. Oh how great it would be to live up north for just a short time:) On other notes, I love to cook, write recipes, run/walk and do yoga when I have time. I don’t run very far, how do you eat for energy? Any tips on breakfasts, lunches and dinners? I haven’t had time to check out all the aspects of your job yet, but wanted to send you a quick email to let you know your story is truly amazing and as a recovering ED patient, I’m adapting to newer foods, but have to exclude soy, too much gluten and sugar due to health concerns. On the side, I choose not to eat red meat, and only eat organic chicken or turkey once or twice every couple of months.
What nutritional tips do you have? As a student, I suppose I shouldn’t be asking someone else considering my degree, but this lifestyle is one that I want to be free from ( ED), and know that traditional American diets won’t work for me.

Thank you, and please keep in touch. You’re great! The states are really hard, don’t envy us too much over here:)

    Hey Freya!
I would just like to say thanks to you and your awesome blog. I ran my first half marathon yesterday and I must say that reading your blog inspired me in some way. I managed to run the whole way and do it under 2 hours (1 hour 57 to be exact). I also made a friend on the way round :) I am so proud of myself. I am not a natural, ‘gifted’ runner and I have had to train so hard to get to where I am; all whilst studying to become a teacher. I am looking forward to my next race already!

I would also like to say that you covered every peeve of mine in your rant a couple of weeks ago. Just because I enjoy a banana over a chocolate bar, or a nice big salad, doesn’t mean I am crazy. I also get annoyed when people comment on my running and how they wish they could run like me. HECK, they could if they got off their bottoms and trained!! I am happy and that’s all that matters. Healthy food and exercise is part of what makes me happy.

Thanks again Freya. By the way, I am from New Zealand and we don’t have the range of vege food ya’ll have available. I am extremely jealous of the nut butters and tempeh products.

    Em xox

      Awh thank you so much!
And a big old CONGRATS on your half marathon, that’s a fabulous achievement!! I’m so glad I could help you in anyway :-)
Good luck with the teaching, keep eating your bananas and running as fast, slow, or anything in between as you like! Oh, and good luck with whatever race coems next! xo
