Random Musings Because My Mind Is Frazzled

Hello, lovely people! How’s it going?

I for one, am totally and utterly done in right now – meaning, I’m exhausted! I started today (Sunday) with a 12.6mile / 1hr45minute run, which was super – ZERO pain! Although the latter half of the run was tough, because I was running directly into incredibly strong winds. Winds + Freya = a drop of 15 secs/per mile! Sheesh. Talk about blustery. At least I survived. But yeah, the wind – and hills – have taken it out of me, and now I want to curl up in front of a fire, with a Rabbit-shaped kitten on my lap, a mug of hot cocoa, and Ryan Gosling stroking my face. #bliss

Alas.

I might have time to do that later, but first I want to write this post, do some child-primary-school-development-related research, study the primary curriculum in a bit more detail, and do general prep for my Very Important Interview coming up in one week’s time!!

So anyway, here are some random musings because my mind is frazzled and I can’t think of a cool theme….

1) Coco and Ralph – the ginger twins – now have collars with BELLS! They seem to have become masters at bird-catching, which is not ideal, because we like pretty birds over my way. The other day, I walked into the bathroom, and the bath was full of blood, feathers everywhere, and a bird with a head and a shredded (yes, shredded) body. It was like a scene out of some horrific horror film!

2) I started my teaching assistant course, which is good – it’s nice to engage my mind a bit – but it’s tiring! I get home on Thursdays at about 9pm, having not had dinner or anything. The first week it happened, I had nothing prepped, so ended up with this:

Chocolate banana oats with extra soy milk, and some tempeh, which was super quickly fried in soy sauce and then covered in nooch.

Random.

3) Talking of random: when I uploaded the photos from my camera onto here, I had this bowl of oats amongst the mix:

I have no idea when I ate it, what I made it out of, or why I thought it was worthy of a picture. Maybe it was because it’s in a square bowl…? Who knows, it’s a mystery. But either way, I obviously went through the trouble of taking the photo, loading it onto the laptop, making the sharpness better, and then waiting half a small lifetime for it to upload onto here – so I darn well was gonna put it in this post! Hurrump.

4) I got woken up multiple times last night by jingling outside my room. I guess that’s the cat way of getting me back for wrapping bells around their necks.

5) I really really like pinning things on Pinterest, and I really really wanted to put a picture in here of something I pinned recently, but I really really can’t work out how to do it. Anyone care to shed some light, or am I doomed to spend the rest of this post showing you pictures of oats?

6) Oats it is.

But, oats with crumbled cookie, coconut, chocolate chips and a side of Coco!

7) The second time I went to my TA course, I had dinner prepped for when I got home:

That, my dears, would be carrot-red lentil-peanut butter soup! My mum once made a carrot soup, and she added in a few tbsps of peanut butter into it – took it to a whooole new level, I’m telling ya! But for me and my runner ways, vegetable soup wouldn’t do it for dinner – hence the red lentils too. Protein, carb, fat, vegetable? Check check check annnnnd check.

8) I have a 3 x 10min threshold run on Tuesday! Holy smokes! 10 minutes is a long time to be running at threshold…but gosh darnnit, that run is going to be my bitch and I will attack it with a fury! Much like the fury I had today, during the windy run – do you know, at mile 10 today, I literally stopped and screamed like a caveman into the wind? That’s what frustration does to you. And I guess a hefty chunk of Emotional Woman too.

9) That’s a socca pancake.

Covered in delicious noochified scrambled tofu!

Yumm.

Gosh it’s been a while since I’ve done good ol’ proper socca, with no crazy additions (grated carrot, millet flakes, raisins, walnuts, coconut etc etc..). I’ve missed it :-)

10) I had a job interview last Friday!

To give you an idea of just how competitive the job market is now: 130 people applied for this job! 130!! And they gave under 30 an interview, so even if I don’t get a second interview, at least I got one in the first place! That in itself is an achievement!

11) I played with my pony this weekend :-)

We were playing Tag…

I also played with Tig:

And those Tig photos are on the blog purely so my dear sister (HI HANNAH!) can nick them! She misses her boy now she’s living up the teacher lifestyle in some corner of London.

12) The OLYMPICS will be here soon!!! I have a predicament. I don’t have tickets to anything, but I do believe that the marathon is a free-for-all – ie, if you can get to London and find a space [amongst the billion or so other folk] then you can watch. Now, I’d LOVE to watch, because at what other time in my life will the Olympic games be a mere 2hr train journey away? BUT. If I do watch the marathon, chances are I’ll see a blurry 2 second flurry of super-fast men running past, and that’s it. I’ll miss the racing finish and all the blood, sweat and pain that will inevitably happen before – the bits which would be shown on TV. Soo…what to do? Go and watch, just so I’ve done something Olympic-y, or watch at home? Decisions, decisions….

13) I dreamt about my super-cute physio the other night….remember, the one who treated me for shin splints a year ago? Yeah, he’s still on my lovesick mind. OH, he was so beautiful….woe is me! Maybe I shall feign injury just so I can go and say ‘ello ‘ello to him ;-p

14) That’s it, I’m done, post over! I’m tired!

xo

Question Time: What sport do you want to see most at the Olympics?

Wow, I don’t know whose legs are longer out of yours and your dear pony’s! Oh to look so gorgeous and graceful – your interview outfit is also super-stylish, so I have no idea why you’ve said in the past that you have no fashion sense. On that basis, there’s no hope for the rest of us.

I want your random dinner, stat. Not with tempeh though *shudders*. I’d go for tofu.

Can I be a right pain in the arse…just the once (well, I am an inherent pain in the arse now I come to think of it…) It’s ‘feign’ injury, not ‘fain’? Gah, sorry. Marking so many 1st year exams has me on the spelling Nazi front. Apologies. Feel free to point out the many spelling mistakes that will no doubt occur in this comment alone :P

The wind was nuts again up North too. I have screamed at the force of the wind more times than I care to count.

Oh, and with the marathon (which is the sport I’d most like to watch)…I’d go along and record the live TV coverage. Nothing can beat that crowd atmosphere – I wish I could be there!

Aaah thank you! I’ve updated the post – I honestly had no idea it was ‘feign’!
& thank you for all the other comments, you’ll make me get a big head :p xxx

  4. Comment by Katy:

I love putting together random dinners! Yours looks yummy no matter how random it was :P

Last weekend we had such strong winds that we couldn’t even go outside for fear of being blown over! Wellington is famous for it’s winds. It kinda sucks when it’s so so sunny outside and yet you can’t go out due to winds rAwR!

Hmmm…I’m quite interested in seeing the triathlon!

  5. Comment by Hannah:

OH MY GOD HE IS SO CUTE!! I love your interview outfit too! I bought hot pink jeans the other day, I’m wearing them right now, and a dress in (wait for it…) size 8!!! I have to suck in to do it up but I pull it off… oh my God and Ryan and I are planning the Africa trip for next summer, google photos of Zanzibar and hopefully that’s where we’ll be at the end of summer after spending 2 weeks doing good in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania :-D GOOD LUCK with the job, text me plz xxx

  6. Comment by Maria @ runningcupcake:

I want to go and see the marathon- I am sure I heard (maybe on marathon talk?) that it is a 2 lap course so you would get to see the men and women zoom by super fast twice each, so 4 times. Plus I just think it will be so exciting!!! Just tape it on the TV if you want to see it again, but I think being there will be soo sooo soooooooo exciting! Can you tell I think it will be exciting??

  7. Comment by Rachel @ Eat, Learn, Discover!:

I don’t even care what event, I’d just love to go to the olympics! In summer I love watching the track events and gymnastics.
As for the marathon, I’d say go! You can always record it and watch it later :-)

  8. Comment by Stephanie:

Hi Freya. :) I just have to say how beautiful your horses are! Those pictures are stunning. I’m super jealous and I wish I could steal them for a day or two. :P Congrats on the great run! I hate running when it’s so windy out. It definitely makes it extra challenging. I love watching gymnastics but I’m excited for the track events as well.

  9. Comment by Jen:

I say go watch the marathoners, even if it only lasts a few seconds. I remember when the Olympic torch ran through my home town when I was quite small; I only got to see the runner for a few seconds, but it was well-worth it! Now, more than 10 years later, I still remember how exciting it was. You can’t beat seeing a world event like that in the flesh!

  10. Comment by Nathalie:

    You look so chic!!!
Love the pony pics- I bet your sister is so pleased to see such lovely photos of Tig!
The Olympics…I’d dread getting there with public transport but I am sure it would be amazing to soak up the atmosphere. I’ll be glued to the TV for the running, gymnastics and the equestrian events!

  11. Comment by Nathalie:

Another one…not sure if it is just my computer, but the links to click through to previous or newer posts (above the post headline) don’t seem to be working.

  12. Comment by Cat:

Glad to see that your running is going well, and pain free!

I am training to be a primary school teacher, so if you need any info then please give me a shout. I’d be glad to help.

    Lots of yummy oats!!

  13. Comment by Sarah:

This is a totally random question, but I can’t help but ask: what products do you use on your skin?! It is absolutely flawless!

    • Comment by Brit Chick Runs:

Awh thank you! My skin care routine is very simple: Simple cleansing wipes, a Clearasil thing that I just wipe on, and that’s it! Simple and quick, but I think it works :)
