He said yes!

Yes yes YES!

I got good news today! Well, kinda.

I had my physio appointment this afternoon, which went well – my left shin is still the troublesome one, so I got a lovely massage on a particular niggly-point, and some more ultrasound <- felt so good! Mr Physio also said to me it’s good that the pain in that left lower leg is moving about a bit (and getting less, obvs) cos if it was in one place, that would indicate something like a stress fracture. Soo he’s confident whatever the deal is, is healing right :)

Whilst I was there I had a question for him – sadly, it wasn’t ‘willyoumarrymeandhavelotsofbabieswithmepleaseandthankyou’, but something much more important: I’ve had my eye on a marathon in October for ages now (ok – since I had that pain free run the other week), so I asked him if he thought it’d be realistic that I could do one then, without my legs slowing crumbling away beneath me, or something equally horrific.

He said YES!

In fact, he saw no reason why I shouldn’t :) and even said I should be pain free in 4 weeks anyway…hurrah! AND I can run a 7miler this weekend!!! I totally trust his opinion:

a) he’s fully chartered and has about a bazillion qualifications (including some from Aussie-Land)

b) he’s run 3 marathons

c) he’s an ‘expert’ in runner’s injuries

d) he’s pretty

So if he says I can do, I can do it!

Which means – training will start June/July time, so you’re gonna see a lot more of this:

And this:

I should be able to stay in a hotel the night before, which means hotel pampering…

DSCF5828.JPG

My mumma will come with me to cheer and yell – and be official photogger!
DSCF5857.JPG

And I will post many photos of me looking like a sweaty, greasy, pale mess :)

And you’ll probably see another photo of me looking as exhausted as I am here:

(That was about 40mins after the end of the Marine Corps – I’m holding a bagel)

In conclusion: I just entered for the Dublin Marathon on October 31st, one year TO THE DAY of my first marathon. I chose that one for a number of reasons – it gives me lots of time to heal, it’s near home (no more flying halfway across the world!), the weather will be perfect, and after reading this part of a review….

The course itself was ever-changing and virtually flat with some lovely downhill sections.’

….I was sold :P

I am now sitting here feeling tremendously excited – you know that kind of excitement where you feel fluttery inside and want to cry a bit? That’s how I feel! Running is my PASSION and I’ve been chomping at the bit, wanting to do another marathon for so, so long now. Reading about everyone training recently, and not being able to do it myself, has made me realise just how much I love it, miss it, and how much I feel it is a part of the ‘essence of Freya’. And now…I have one all set up and ready! That light at the end of the healing-from-running-injury tunnel is now a big beaming ball of sun!!!!

(side note: I’m still doing the half marathon in October – it fits in perfectly with training! – and I should still be doing the Brighton marathon next April)

OOk! Enough running talk, jah!

LOL – I made a faux pas this morning.

You know how blenders come with lids? Well, I realised today just how important those lids are. I dug out Vincent this morning, put in some melon, cinnamon, vanilla extract, water and spinach, and flicked the switch. Um…boom! Green spinachy melon goo all over the fruit bowl, the counter top, me and the ceiling.

Lesson learnt!

I was hoping after that early morning kerfuffle, that the smoothie would be tasty:

That’s a sinking frozen grape, in case you wondered.

DSCF8531.JPG

It was just so-so. REAL breakfast was much more up my street!

1/2 c. oats, cooked with carob powder, vanilla, salt, cinnamon and a tsp of vanilla coffee granules:

DSCF8532.JPG

With added soya milk:

DSCF8533.JPG

Added cereal and peanut flour paste (mixed with maple syrup and Dessert Dukkah)

DSCF8534.JPG

And added almonds and Grape Nuts <- remember when I used to add them to everything!? I just re-discovered a box in the cupboard!

DSCF8535.JPG

DSCF8538.JPG

Twas a super bowl.

After that, the sun was shining it’s little chubby face off, so I packed up some lecture notes and did a 2mile read/walk. Loads of people ask me how I do them – the answer is simple:

- I live down country lanes, so there’s no traffic or noise

- I go down the road, so there are no rabbit holes or tree branches to trip on (or dog poop to stand in!)

- um…that’s it

I seriously recommend you try it! I mean when you walk, do you actually have to think about where you put your feet? Nooo – you just walk! It’s no different to if you were walking through a city and staring up at the buildings, or talking to a friend – you don’t actually need to study where you’re going to be able to walk. I make it your Saturday Mission to go for a read/walk tomorrow, my loves!

A packed lunch was on the cards today – despite having a late physio appointment, I wanted to go into town early to do some shopping first – to buy some jeans! The fly zipper on my other pair has been broken SO long, and I need to get it fixed. But sadly – this is so silly – I only have one pair of decent, ‘suitable for public viewing’ jeans…!! And I have – literally – one skirt, which I don’t like. Ergo, to get the broken jeans fixed, I needed something to replace them whilst they were away. Plus, more than one pair of jeans is never a bad idea, right?

Anyway, I’m digressing – I doubt y’all really give two toots about my jean-wardrobe situation! I’ll show you lunch instead -

A base of salad leave:

Topped with sprouty, beany, lentily things:

DSCF8542.JPG

DSCF8544.JPG

Then, cherry tomatoes and curry-roasted left over tofu (tofu, cubed and sprinkled with curry powder, baked for 20mins)

DSCF8545.JPG

And finished with a layer of curry roasted courgette, parsnip and broccoli:

DSCF8546.JPG

It was AWESOME! I’m on suuuch a curry kick right now, it seems to be all I crave! I washed lunch down with a lovely decaf soya cappuccino from Starbucks – Costa, Cafe Nero, I’ll take or leave. But put me near a Starbucks and I can NOT resist! Their coffee is da BOMB!

When I got home, curry was still on my mind – so I tackled a new curry recipe, as part of Recipe Week Challenge!

DSCF8554.JPG

It turned out super:

DSCF8555.JPG

( I added in tempeh, cashews and almonds, for extra ugliness and extra protein)

DSCF8560.JPG

Gooooorrrrjjuuuuzzzz. It went especially well with the roasted kabocha that appeared post-photoshoot :p

Dessert involved chocolate and about half a pack of frozen grapes:

DSCF8561.JPG

Think that amount, x 15. (note that silly, tiny nubbin of a grape! How can that even count as a real grape!!??)

Ok – that’s me done in for the evening! I’m extra tired today, cos I accidently set my alarm too early….I’m dim in the mornings. Soooo goodnight!

Question: Do you like curry?

Ps – don’t forget to enter the lubbly Emma’s giveaway; it’s a good-un!

Next time you go to physical therapy, you should ask your doctor to marry you – just saying. You’d have beautiful children. Can you take pictures on your phone? You should try to snag a secret one.

I keep forgetting to tell you that last week when you posted for me and talked about looking for TJ’s for 3 hours, my mom was dying laughing.. She wanted me to tell you how we got lost looking for Abbey Road in London for 3 hours in the pouring rain two summers ago.

  2. Comment by Nicky:

Ooooh I am loving all the curryness going on – I am a HUGE curry fan!! If I feel like anything is too bland, I just add curry powder to it! Does the trick everytime :) In fact I had a lentil dahl for dinner hehe!
I’m so happy for you with the running news, I know how much it means to you and how much you’re hating injury right now grr!
I am having grape-nuts everyday at the moment, they’re amazing!! Such a good crunch!

  3. Comment by Alyssa @ Life of bLyss:

Chickpea aubergine curry is a HUGE fave of mine!! Soooo good!! And thanks for the link friend!! :)

  5. Comment by Mary @ Bites and Bliss:

Woohoo for getting the thumbs up to go for the marathon!! That’s awesome!! :D

Curry’s one of my favorite foods. I’ve yet to make it myself (usually just sprinkle curry power over veggies)..but I always get it when dining out!

  6. Comment by Jenny (Fit Girl Foodie):

Never hurts to have a pretty physio ;) How great for being able to run in the marathon woohoo!

  7. Comment by Tara:

I can totally relate to the things you are saying! Once running becomes a passion, it’s so hard when you get sidelined. I think I would have been worshipping the ground that the physio walked on after he said that.
What book is that recipe from? I absolutely love curry and eggplant is my favorite vegetable ever!

  8. Comment by Jess@HealthyExposures:

SUCH GOOD NEWS!!!! I’m so happy for you!! I imagine you not running being like me being told I couldn’t even see Teddie for months; I’d be gutted! We have our passions and we just crave ‘em, y’know? So I’m very glad to hear that you’re well on your way to being pain-free. I’ve got my fingers crossed that this is the biggest hurdle you’ll encounter!
And I’m with Chelsea. Either just ask him to marry you and/or sneak a pic for us :P

  9. Comment by Khushboo:

Great news about the marathon-woo! When it comes to coffee, I love Costa & Cafe Nero but refuse to drink Starbucks coffee- besides their chai tea lattes, their hot drinks get a thumbs-down from me. The fraps, however, are a diff story- cannot resist them!
Oh and believe it or not, I’m Indian but hate curry!

  10. Comment by Nicole:

That’s such amazing, happy news girl!! I’m so excited for your plans for a full in October, I even told my hubby since we both loved ready about your training last year + the marathon posts.

Your cocoa oats look insanely good!! Reminds me that I need grape nuts back in my life real bad.

  11. Comment by Sophie:

I love curry! So so happy you can run again! I’d be tempted by the dublin marathon but I’m running the cardiff half 2 weeks before so bad timing. Hope your run goes well xx

  12. Comment by ~Jessica~:

I’m not the greatest fan of curry. I think it’s because I am one of those ‘super-tasters’ that picks up on even mild flavours…or I’m just a wuss when it comes to spice. My tum can’t handle chilli either, so that rules almost all curries out.

So happy your injuries are healing. I loved reading about your training for marathon number one so am looking forward to seeing your progress for Dublin!

  13. Comment by Little Bookworm:

Yay for being able to do the marathon! :D The idea of a read/walk sounds nice. Oh and love the sound of that curry!

  14. Comment by Jodea:

First of all, I wonder if your leg shaving the other day had anything to do with Mr Physio… ;) Hee hee! That is such fab news about the marathon. I do like curry – I had a lovely Goan fish one just this week, actually. My fave type of spicy food is probably Malaysian or Thai, though, a bit fresher and ‘cleaner’. I will do anything for a good laksa. ANYTHING. Off out for Thai tonight as it happens – probably squid with chilli oil and basil :P Jx

  15. Comment by Nic:

Awwww!!!! A marathon in Dublin! My favorite city like ever?!
So jealous!! Not only for running in Dublin but for being able to run a marathon!! I’m in the very very early stage in beginning to run – as in run/walking 4.8miles in 1h12min haha!!
Can’t wait to just run! But want to start as slowly as I can to prevent injury and not loose interest because I overdo it! :)
Oh and YAY about doing such progress with your legs!! So happy for you!!

  16. Comment by Katy:

Freya, I love yoooooooooooooooooooou <3 So HAPPY that you have permission to run your second marathon. That's AWESOME!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!

  19. Comment by Pxoxo:

Yay for being able to do marathon in Dublin :) . I am in love with Starbucks cappuccinos, I spend wayyy too much money there! Doesn’t help that it’s in my college so I go there at least once every day!

  20. Comment by Jessica @ The Process of Healing:

Congrats girl!!! SO happy for you!

  21. Comment by Lauren:

A marathon in Dublin sounds lovely! Congrats on the good news :) I love curry but it’s definitely one of those things people either love or hate. My mom is a hater so I must take after my dad.

  22. Comment by Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine:

Yayy that’s so exciting, I’m happy for you!! I love that it will be exactly a year after your first mary. I’ve heard Dublin is an amazing city, too!!

  24. Comment by Hannah:

You read/walk too?? I thought I was the only one!! Most people think I’m nutzo when I do it but I love love love it! I just wish I could read/run too :)
congrats on being well enough to run another marathon!! The Dublin course sounds wonderful, I always like things to look at when I’m running.
how do coffee oats taste? really strong or more like oats?

  25. Comment by Lynn (The Cream Filling):

Congrats on getting to run again!

Do I like curry? Are you kidding? I LOVE CURRY! I am from southeast Asia where curry is basically a staple food. It is the bomb :)

  26. Comment by Tori:

You’re so pretty! Ahh I need some frozen grapes in my shakes now.

  27. Comment by Steph:

I want to like curry- the flavours are good I’m just rubbish with spicy stuff- I’ll keep practising! Btw, do you have a starbucks card yet? Totally worthwhile- soy is free rather than an extra 30p or whatever, plus you can get syrup free (sugar free vanilla is da bomb!) and they send you vouchers for extra freebies! (I don’t work for them, I just only just got my card and am loving it!!)

  28. Comment by Lauren @ Lauren Runs:

Congrats on getting the OK to train for another marathon! I’m actually contemplating a marathon in Amsterdam this fall (10/16) and would love to hear about whether the travel to DC affected your running, and anything you did to mitigate the jet lag for your Marine Corps marathon!

  29. Comment by Lauren:

Awesome news about doing the marathon! I love that your first marathon was in a different country – that sounds like a blast. Read/walks are so much fun – although, I mostly stick to the treadmill because I would trip on anything & everything if I tried to read/walk outside.

  30. Comment by Katherine: Unemployed:

how great; I am so excited for you!
