Foal Fail

Eveeeeening folks.
So I went to go visit my aunt/Chahara’s new foal today (the one born the night before last!), and I took my spunky new camera with the hope of taking lots of delightful photos! However. EPIC FAIL. Literally, the second I turned the camera on, the [2nd] set of batteries went all red in the face and angry, and died after only a handful of photos ;’( Gutted!! A tiny tiiiiiiiiny part of my brain did actually think ‘oohh, bring some more batteries’..but obviously the rascal side of my brain decided to overrule the first thought. HURRUMPH. I’m going back this weekend to get more though. Anyway, here’s what I did get! (Apologies for the quality – I haven’t found the right setting for indoor/dull-light photos, that need a fast shutter speed :s)
My aunt has freaking huge fields!!
Proud aunt!
Proud/tired mumma!! Apparently it was quite a long birth :s
The foal is the SWEETEST thing ever! He’s so so friendly – most day old foals are pretty timid and scared of humans, but this guy doesn’t give a crap! He’s so sweet
But, there’s a downside – you might have noticed his hind legs in the pics? Well, sometimes when foals are born, they have slightly wibbly wonky legs, which should straighten up pretty quick. His don’t seem to be though…which is bad. If they don’t, he will probably have to be put down; after all, it’s a deformity, and it’ll ruin his growth (ie his back is being twisted etc), so it’d be the only option. My aunt is gutted
finger’s crossed he sorts himself out over the next week!!
————–
I was up extra early today – lots to do! Cos I’d gotten up earlier, I totally wasn’t in the least hungry, so I just had a square of chocolate and 2 tsp wheatgerm to Break My Fast, as I couldn’t face anything else pre-workout :s Anyways, I did some DVDs, then had an EGM:
I missed thee! It was B. E. A. Utiful, as Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty would say (loveeee that film!!).
Theeeen, I shot off to my aunts, saw the foal, had a tour of her vegetable patch, and stared in awe somewhat at her dogs; three generations – gran is a Boxer, daughter and grandchild are Boxer crosses, so they’re not massive. But after being round Poppy for so long, they looked HUGGGEE!! Crazy.
When I got home, I made a super quick packed lunch, then set out with a mission in mind – Find A Job! Basically, I went into town, and a few places along the way, and asked if anyone had any part time work. I’ve left my details at quite a few places, and I have an interview on Monday….wish me luck!!
It turns out I was actually home by lunch, so I got to enjoy my sheer yumminess at a table
A curry hummus and beetroot/salad sandwich:
Carrots-in-a-curry-hummus-jar:
A pear, and cherries:
Amazing! The hummus and the beets went SO well together – I was rather taken aback by the delight :p
For dessert, I had some cereal
Straight after lunch, I got Chika out and took her for a hack. WHY do I keep riding straight after a big meal??? Will I ever learn?? Apparently not :/ ANYWAY – It was SO HAWT! Poor old Chika was very lethargic; it’s hard being a tubster horse in the heat
When I was done with her, I mucked her and Tig out, and went out on a random 1mile run. 9 minutes of running, and I was literally dripping with sweat
heeeeaaattt wwaaavvveee!! Sheesh.
THEN, I took Poppy out for an hours’ walk – she was bursting to get out
while I was walking down the driveway, I took some horsie photos
Bucket Face!
They love each other
Any excuse right?
I was quite peckish when I got back, so I decided it was the perfect opportunity for a bit of cereal love…not just any cereal though. THIS cereal:
Have you had it before? It was SUPER delicious!! And the ingredients list was delightful
I had it with some Crunchy Bran and yogurt:
Hurrah
I also had a tiny tiny apple – remember folks, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Never forget.
Dinner was another old favourite: tempeh, peanut butter mess, durum wheat, veggies. Or, to put it more nicely:
Softly baked tempeh fillets, with an oriental spiced peanut glaze, on a bed of lightly seasoned, carob dusted durum wheat, and accompanied by garlic and cinnamon baked fresh winter vegetables.
Sounds a bit better right!? Here’s the mess anyway:
Hurrah again!! Best meal ever
Can you guess what’s coming now? Maybe something that sounds like Doppy Palk, and Hessert…oh, and Dig Dother

AWWWWW! I love horses and always dreamed of owning one when I was little. I think kittens win it for me though! I love their tiny little meows!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:18 pm |
Too cute

Jambalaya is my all time favorite meal. It makes my heart siiiiiing!
I’m off to make some of that curry hummus now – it looks so delicious!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:19 pm |
It totally is!! I actually cut the curry spices in half, cos my mum hates hot stuff, and I think it was extra delicious with just a hint of heat
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:16 pm |
Aww, poor baby’s legs
I really hope they straighten out for him
I am stumped on my favorite meal… I like so many different things and my tastes are always changing!!
Fave baby animal has got to be puppies!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:17 pm |
Puppies for me…I just melt.
I hope the little guy’s legs right themselves- it would be so tragic otherwise! Would putting him down be the only option because he would be in pain and not grow properly or is it because he couldn’t be shown, ridden etc? He’s adorable…those ears!!! Is ‘dad’ also an Arab?
I really like that cereal as well; just ordered a new batch. I recently discovered a Nature’s Path cereal variety in my local Tesco, ‘Mesa Sunrise’ or something like that-very tasty! It’s nice seeing it in a supermarket as they sell it for such a premium at the Healthfood stores and online
I look forward to your creative efforts with the Spaghetti Squash! My nearest Waitrose is almost 50 Miles away… I miss it so!
Lovely photos again!!!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:21 pm |
Yep, dad is an arab too
Well, it’s pretty complicated – if his legs don’t straighten, he’ll be in pain as he gets older cos he’ll grow all wonky and weird. Plus he could never be ridden, he couldn’t breed, and he’d be limping about. It’d be a nasty life
Believe me, my aunt wouldn’t put him down unless there really wasn’t another choice
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:38 pm |
Too cute…I think the ears give it away (not that I have real knowledge about arabs, I just adore them for their spirit and beauty)
Oh I really really hope he’ll right himself! It must be awful for your auntie and you as well.
I just realized that my comment was a bit odd. I hope you didn’t think I was implying that your aunt would take a decision like that light-heartedly I didn’t mean it to sound like that! Sorry about that!
And apologies for going on about it- let’s just all hope that the little guy will be just fine!!!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:45 pm |
Oh no, don’t worry at all
I was expecting someone to question it anyway, so no worries
Yes, the ears are a total give away!! I’m surprised he is so arab-y, cos Chahara isn’t ‘typical’ looking – like she doesn’t have much of a dished face or anything..he must take after his dad
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 9:22 am |
I am glad you didn’t take it the wrong way
I think on the photos you posted a while ago of Chahara, she looks very arab-y; especially on the shots where you’re competing! I loved that pic on the cover of that magazine!
Had my first ever overnight oats with banana soft serve this morning…OMG…what have I been missing out on!!! Delish!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:24 pm |
Oh my goodness, that foal is PRECIOUS. Love it.
My favorite baby animal would have to be puppies
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:25 pm |
Awww cute foal photos! I hope his legs straighten out! My favourite baby animal is a tie between foals and kittens I think.
Favourite meal ever is a tough one – something containing parsnips I think. Maybe bean casserole and dumplings.
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:42 pm |
Containing parsnips!!! I officially love you
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:29 pm |
AHHH that foal is so stinking adorable. i wantttt him!!
my favorite meal? well that’s funny… i just did a post on that on my bloggiepoo
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:42 pm |
I’ll have to have a look-see
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:30 pm |
My favorite meal is definitely some Americanized italian. Lasagna, spaghetti or pizza. Lots o carbs and cheese!!
I’m so jealous of the ponies– I’ve never even ridden a horse!!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:43 pm |
Oh gosh, you’re missing out! Ask for a riding lesso for your next birthday
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:48 pm |
I really hope the foal managed to straighten out soon, I would have for him to be put down and I’m sure you all would do too.
All time favourite meal is way too difficult to choose I love so many different foods – chili, chicken fajitas, stuffed peppers, roast dinner…how do I choose?!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 7:58 pm |
Aw, I hope the foal is doing better, looks just like her mommy.
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 8:02 pm |
I MUST make that hummus! Favourite meal is so tough, there are many, but it is a close call between a proper Laksa or Lobster Spaghetti (I have a decadent side, see
). Oh, and Ceviche, a fabulous Peruvian fish dish served with sweet potato. I could go on!
You must Google Maltipoo Puppies. Outrageously cute! Peekapoos are good, too. This is what I spend my days doing when I should be working! Baby penguins are pretty amazing aswell. Sending my love to the little foal xx
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 10:00 pm |
AWWHHH!! I just did – they look like little fluffy toys!!! Oh my gosh, I want one
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 8:07 pm |
Aww that stinks about your camera losing battery! But oh my goodness what an ADORABLE foal! Those pictures made me so happy! And your dinner description cracked me up. I loved the “fancy” vs the normal version!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 8:39 pm |
I really hope that the foal is ok!!!
I vote for kittens, too!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 8:44 pm |
Oh bless him – I really hope his legs sort themselves out. Being an animal lover can be so heartbreaking.
I’ve become obsessed with a website called Zoo Borns – all your baby animal needs in one place!
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 10:01 pm |
New favourite site
Thursday, June 24th 2010 at 10:24 pm |
That little foal is so adorable, fragile as can be! I really hope he’ll be ok….
I love beetroot and hummus together and “curry hummus” sounds even better.
That cereal is what my Mum has EVERY day for brekkie! Hehe, I like it too but I like a bit of variety in my life
Puppies are definitely the most adorable baby animal- when they’re teeny tiny.
Enjoy this heatwave while it lasts.
E xx

oh noooo! i hope the foal gets sorted out – that’s too bad
i’ll have her in my thoughts, and your aunt too.
I love your elegant description of dinner, haha. So professional! And looks divine, too
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 2:17 am |
Totally kittens for me too but that foal is PRECIOUS!!!!
Good luck with the interview!!
My favorite meal? Hm.. that’s HARD!!! I’m not sure. Maybe my mom’s spaghetti? Or her chili and cornbread? I love my cooking but her meals.. amazing.
Love you!
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 3:55 am |
Puppies
What can I say, I’m a dog person
Good luck with your interview!

Breakfast is without a doubt the best meal of the day

your dinner and your curry hummus sandwich look amazing! I must remember to try to make those! We had horses growing up and one had one baby. She was just like this. All limbs! I must say my favorite baby animal has got to be a puppy though. Too precious! The way they just want to wiggle all over you is adorable.
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 2:01 pm |
I love how clumsy puppies are
they have no co-ordination!
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 2:03 pm |
OMG what a beautiful horse!! You are so lucky to get to interact with those animals!
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 3:21 pm |
The foal is adorable! I hope his legs form normally…poor guy!
I’d have to say baby horses and dogs are two of my favorites. Puppies make me gushy inside.
And my favorite meal would probably go to chicken salads with roasted beets, goat cheese and candied walnuts. I could eat it literally every day. And speaking of beets, your lunch looks delicious—what an awesome flavor combination!
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 3:50 pm |
It truly was
Your favourite meal sounds delicious! Goat’s cheese has such a lovely taste
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 4:28 pm |
hey so i just bought some tempeh but i have no clue what to do with it. I hear that it can be kinda bitter if you eat it straight up…do you have any suggestions/recipes?!?
Friday, June 25th 2010 at 4:31 pm |
Hello! Well I actually adore the taste of raw tempeh
But, my personal favourite ideas: baked in the oven, and spread with either:
Maple syrup, cinnamon and apple sauce
Peanut butter (you could make a sauce using cocoa powder, soy sauce, cinnamon, water and PB, and then spread it on)
Mashed banana, maple syrup and peanut butter!
You could just treat it like chicken – a sauce for chicken could be used as a sauce for tempeh
Good luck!

smoked salmon and scrambled eggs – although I havn’t had it in a while..
That bread looks lovely – where is it from? A local bakery I bet?!
Really hoping the foal gets better, it just looks so fragile!

The Foal is sooo cute – i really hope that his legs straighten soon – that sucks that he might have to be put down otherwise.
Your food looks lovely as ever – you seem to have reverted to Veganism so easily – well done girlie!
Saturday, June 26th 2010 at 12:20 pm |
It has been pretty easy- I was surprised!
